Luckily, I have never experienced prison. I have seen Hollywood movies about them. I’ve seen Scared Straight where prisoners try to scare teenagers away from lives of crime. I don’t know how accurate studies are but, there are definitely things that shouldn’t be going on inside prison.

Prison should be a place to reform criminals, not just locking them up and turn them loose more hardened than they were before. Gang violence and sexual assault should not have to be part of any prisoner’s life.

There seems to be a lot of boredom. Time should be used for education and behavior modification. We need to think about types of job skills an ex-con can use when they get out.

In your thoughts also include halfway houses or other programs to help them make the return into society. As fast as the world is changing, there will be many adjustments to make.
